My Top Clean Beauty Picks & Daily Skincare Routine

Let’s talk skincare…

Because while nutrition is SUPER important, it’s only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to holistically healing and loving up your body.

Skincare is right up there with stress management and mindfulness practices when taking your health to the next level. I think of it as the 2.0 step after you clean up your diet.

Because it’s deeper than skin deep and affects every aspect of your health.

Here’s Why:

Our skin is the body’s largest organ and its porous. Meaning it absorbs everything we put on it from bronzer to deodorant to moisturizer — into the bloodstream and into our cells — affecting our hormones, gut microbiome, immune system, and menstrual health.

For me personally, it wasn’t until 2-3 years ago (while trying to get pregnant) that I really starting taking my skincare seriously by swapping out old estrogen-disrupting, chemical-laden products with more eco-friendly, sustainable, and hormone-loving ones instead. It took over a year to really get going — but small steps can make a big difference in terms of your health and now I’d say I’m 99% converted.

And while any upgrade is good, a lot of companies claim to be “clean” or “natural” when they’re actually far from it. It’s why I stick to a few solid sources I know I can trust — and am sharing with you here.

That golden glow.

It definitely starts with nutrition, but the skincare products you use matter more than you think! Especially when it comes to supporting hormone balance and natural detoxification.

How to start?

Slowly… Start buying the clean version of what you’re about to run out of and build your collection over time so it’s 1) not as overwhelming and 2) more wallet-friendly.

The one caveat I have is with deodorant. If you’re still using an aluminum-based antiperspirant, I’d suggest you swap it out ASAP since your underarms are super porous with a large cluster of lymph nodes that are exposed to the deodorant’s chemicals all day, every day. Those little nodes are lightning-speed gateways to every cell in the body and it’s their job to filter toxins out of the body via sweat, not into it.

A few other suggestions for getting the biggest bang for your buck is thinking about products you use daily like body lotion, foundation, and face moisturizer.

It’s taken a lot of trial and error to find the brands I love and use on the regular — so think of this as a process. My favorite online resources to start or expand your journey are Credo, Follain, and CAP Beauty.

My Daily Skincare Routine

I started switching to clean beauty products a few years ago when I learned how disrupting certain chemicals can be for our hormones. I figured if I wouldn't be comfortable eating it, why would I put it on my face!

Here's what I'm currently loving:

Morning

Splash of cold water when I first wake-up.

After working out / showering:

Osea Ocean Cleanser + this One Love charcoal sponge

Marie Veronique Vitamin C + E or Tammy Fender Quintessential Serum

Mara Algae + Moringa Oil (rubbed in with this tool or this tool to boost blood flow)

Primally Pure Charcoal Deodorant (or Hume)

Osea Undaria Algae Body Oil

If I feel like putting on make-up, here's what I typically use:

RMS "Un" Cover-up

Ilia Tinted SPF Moisturizer

Ilia Mascara

Ilia Brow Gel

RMS Luminizing Powder

For a spritz of fragrance, I'm obsessed with anything by Heretic.

And for sunscreen, I’ve been loving EleVen Unrivaled Sun Serum SPF 35 for my face if I don’t use the Ilia foundation. I like Suntegrity and Supergoop for body. I also keep this mineral stick in my purse for quick touch-ups throughout the day.

Evening

I love washing the day away and turning it into a kind of nightly ritual.

Primally Pure Cleansing Oil

Marie Veronique Retinol (when not pregnant)

Mara Algae + Moringa Oil or Tammy Fender Antioxidant Creme

If I'm feeling like my pores are clogged or I wore more make-up during the day, I'll double cleanse with the oil-cleanser first followed by this soap.

Weekly

1-2x/week I'll do a mask depending on what my skin needs. I alternate between Osea Red Algae for clarifying and this Juice Beauty Green Apple Peel to exfoliate. I also like LINNE Botanicals SCRUB face mask.

I'll also dry-brush a 3-4 times each week to increase blood flow and lymphatic drainage. Following up with my Osea oil or this Primally Pure body butter when my skin feels especially dry. (I’ve been using the body butter a lot more lately to help with skin hydration and stretch marks.)

Occasionally

Breakouts are rare, but when I get that random PMS or stress pimple, I dab on this Odacité Black Cumin-Cajeput Serum that helps reduce inflammation and redness.
